Meet Pauline Nordin. She’s 5 feet 2 inches tall, weighs 117 pounds and has a body-fat percentage between 7 and 10 percent. She also sports biceps that measure “12 and a half inches, cold.”
She’s not a Marine, nor does she have military experience. So why is she featured on the cover of this week’s Marine Corps Times?
Her fitness and nutrition lessons have caught the eye of officials at Headquarters Marine Corps, who want to enlist her help in training Marines.
Nordin first hit their radar when a mock recruiting poster went viral bearing her image. The poster read “U.S. Marines. We turn girls into women and women into leathernecks.” It was created by an apparent super fan of Nordin, of which there are many.
Despite her lack of military training, Marine officials say there is clear potential in her teachings.
See this week’s issue for all the details about Nordin’s career, plus diet tips (she eats 7 pounds of veggies a day!), and finally, a workout Nordin says is guaranteed to kick a Marine’s ass.

SPEAKING FROM A MARINE….blah she is on the cover based on looks alone is she is so GRRRR AND GOOD TO GO why the hell does SHE ENLIST NOOOOOOOOOOOOO MILITARY EXPERIENCE?? because she is a model who can’t cut it….. EPIC FAIL…..i know at least 5 female drill instructors that look better than this~~
Why the hate, christal?
I am a Drill Instructor and I definitely know “actual Female and Male Marines” that are on “active duty” that do train and keep their troops on the beaten path up in the morning before the rising sun. They run well over a Males 300 PFT and the females can a Male 300 PFT as well. We can sing cadence and quote Marine Corps orders to back up our PT. This “model” doesn’t know a dang thing about Marine’s, Marine PT- Meaning; Running in formation, Hiking with packs, MRE calorie intake, I.T., Drill, or Marine Corps Orders- especially MCO 6100.3J.
-The Hate is because Marines don’t like when civilians ACT (poster) like they did something to be called or associated with us, when they haven’t and just act it, if she wants to train with us then good. GO TO BOOT CAMP- I am sure she will pass it, and do well in P.I. However- I and I know my fellow Marines can say… Stay out of our business. Please stop acting like one of us when it is clear you are not. You want to challenge us with P.T. fine. -I as a D.I. CHALLENGE YOU- “Go to Boot Camp” become one of us, then and only then- will you be excepted. Reserve, Active, doesn’t matter just cross the parade deck with an Eagle Globe and Anchor and the title. Then come and talk to us about P.T. or anything else. But until you do, take a swig of that protein shake and let us do our thing- Which is train and fight for you to have the freedom to do yours.
Rivera that is a ridiculous statement youre making there. So let me get this straight you dont want tips on nutrition or physical training from a professional? From someone that makes a livingnfrom those things? Genius, way to be belt fed. Clearly you’ve been on the depot for entirely to long
Listen there Ricky recon- I am saying the Marine Corps has PLENTY of young athletes with degrees in kinesiology, physical training, nutrition, physical education etc… We as Marines should be looking amongst our own to help those that have difficulties finding their physical peaks. We have plenty of gyms and civilian nutritionists at almost all the bases in the Marine Corps. There isn’t a problem with Marine Corps P.T. The problems are but not limited to-
1. Some Marines work schedules are to strict to have an active and productive physical training routine.
2. You know as well as I do- some Marines don’t care to be physically fit
3. Some Marines can’t be physically active due to injury or sickness
What I am saying MOTO is the “Marines Corps” does not need to outsource we need to “in-source” our PTI’s, CPTR’s and BCP coordinators correctly. This position shouldn’t be held by MOTO 300 runner Cpl/LCpl Schmuckitely. It should be held by an actual SNCO who has the literal certificates AA, BA, etc… in some kind of fitness, If there isn’t one in the command, then the money we are using to get the nutritionists at the gyms and the this Physically fit model to educate us, should be used to educate a Marine who wants to get educated in this capacity in their respective command. Talk about a waste of money, I bet we can keep 3 or 4 Cpl’s in the Marine Corps for another 4 year reenlistment with the money we are going to pay her. But no- we are going to down size our active duty and start employing civilians to do what we should already be doing. Lastly this isn’t about me it’s about the Marine as a whole- we are Americas fighting force, right? What does it say about us if we have to go to a civilian to train us to be more physically fit… Never mind the civilian thing- if she was prior service I would be more inclined to accept her. But she’s not- She shouldn’t be the “new face” it should be a Marine female or male doesn’t matter- Marine. -It’s not the depot that compelled me to comment it’s the fact that again- Marines are being let go and we are wasting money on a fitness model. -Wouldn’t you want a Marine on active duty to stay on active duty, vice paying some model (no offence Mrs. Nordin) to teach to 10% who will listen to be healthier.

Camp Lejeune has its own version of Ms. Nordin. Her name is Kellie and she runs the High Intensity Tactical Training (HITT) Center on Base. The HITT Center focuses on functional fitness and provides tailored training to Marine Units and other authorized patrons. Kellie and her staff are fantastic and work with Marines on a daily basis. Additionally, they have a mobile fitness center called the Mobile Unit equipped with Kettlebells, Sand Bags, Ammo Cans, Rubber Rifles, etc… Don’t take my word for it. How about doing a story on what the Corps is doing to be more fit and not some Fitness Model.
I think only a female marine should be used in this type of advertising, or training! I agree there are so many females in service that are fit, hot and educated in all aspects of training…why are those ladies not being photographed and promoted? Give your own girls a chance to shine!!
And that is a really old photograph! At least 5 years old. Look her up on the internet…or maybe don’t, let’s find a TRUE female marine!!
I don’t know why we have so many negative comments. Obviously she is in great shape, she has some good points, and Marine Times is in the business to sell papers. Win Win on all fronts. I can’t remember the last time I bought one, but I bought this one
Pauline Nordin is nuts. She’s an angry, carb-deprived, narcissistic nut. The Marines deserve better. I am not a soldier but my partner is an ex-Marine (maybe not relevant, but we just had a discussion about the idiocy of someone like Pauline advising leathernecks). I DO know a bit about Pauline, how she trains, and how she eats (I am a physique competitor, and she and her hubby are fitness personalities). Amen to what Janelle said.
I agree with Rivera. There’s a talent pool of thousands of degreed Marines. And likely some sharp ones who don’t have a piece of paper.
At a time when The Corps is down-sizing they should certainly be looking inward for help.
And who cares if Pauline eats seven pounds of vegetables a day? I was in the grunts my first tour and we never had seven pounds of ANYTHING available to us to eat on a daily basis. Want to wow us? Have her come up with a workout routine EVERY Marine can adhere to, regardless of MOS and location.
But again, there are already Marines who can do this. And people like Joe Jones mentioned.
Sorry, brass. Don’t waste the cash.
I read a segment about Ms. Nordin in my air force times. I would imagine that the Marines could seek out one of their own to provide fitness and nutrition tips to other Marines rather than an outsider. Why pay someone to do this when you could make it a special duty for the most qualified Marine?
no disrespect to Ms. Nordin and her achievement of her state of physical fitness but quite frankly….I dont wanna look like that lol…am I the only female thinking this?? I have worked in the fitness industry for years as a personal trainer/ spin instructor, always mainteined a 285 or above PFT the 9 and half years I’ve been in and I’m now training for a triathalon. I keep my body in good working condition. I think I’m more pissed that this is what the Marine Corps expects a female Marine to look like. Yes she is great shape but honestly she’s a bit bulky for me. Fitness comes in many forms, and there are so many routes they could take for advertising the,”fit Marine.” Why not take a note from Nike? they did a tasteful black and white spread showcasing different athletes, different shapes sizes ect. repesenting different body types. Maybe thats something someone could look into….and if they do go that route…they should all definetly be United States Marines.
And as stated above by others…I do agree that there are pleanty of Marines both Male and Female who could easily be the,”Fitness Face,” of the Marine Corps…I doubt there is a need to resort to looking to an outside intity.
I want everyone to think about one thing – CERTIFIED??? Well, I emailed Pauline and she stated when I question her expired certification with PROPTA (Which is a certification body created by a former bodybuilder and not recognized or accredited by NCCA, which all your top personal trainer certs like NSCA, NASM, ACSM, and ACE are affiliated with are), she said she is no longer running a fitness business.
So, when you see all of her fitness marketing stuff she is pushing on the Fighters Diet and her own supplements, she has basically marketed herself as a person that is writing about fitness or selling her eBooks, CD’s, and multitude of products, but no longer trains people legitimately like many trainers out there.
I give her credit for making a name for herself and trying to be the Jillian Michaels of Sweden’s Biggest Loser back in 2005, but she has outright admitted she NO LONGER TRAINS people since 2011.
When you check out her company called ConForce, Inc. or do a check on her LinkedIn, she is a writer, blogger, diet coach, etc…. even though she still puts out there she is a fitness trainer, that is not the case anymore.
So, this brings us back to being CERTIFIED. The Marine Corps HQ’s always VETS people or does background checks, so I hope they look into her background and realize she has no current fitness trainer credentials, she has no degree in Exercise Sciences, no PT cert, no nutritional cert., etc…
So, ask yourself this, if a top notch company or even the Marine Corps is going to hire someone to be contracted with them to give fitness or nutritional advice, wouldn’t it be from someone that has the Academic Degree like a Master’s in Exercise Science, has the Personal Trainer Certs, Nutritional Certs, CSCS, etc…?
If they don’t do it, then shame on the Corps for not making sure the people they contract with to help their marines with health and nutrition is not the most credible and highly skilled.
Just because a girl or guy has muscles and is a figure model and has marketed themselves on youtube, facebook, or in and out of fitness magazines, does not make them a fitness or nutritional expert.
The Marines deserve better and I agree with everyone on this blog post that says, if you have never been a marine or in the military, you don’t deserve the right to work or train them with PT or any nutritional guidance…..HOOAH !!!!
